Engage

The dramatic change in the global climate is a fact. Rapid and drastic measures for reducing the emission of harmful climate gases are necessary. At the same time, great efforts are needed to bind CO2 from the atmosphere.
Madagascar, the 4th largest island in the world, more than one and a half times the size of Germany, was almost completely covered with forests of incredible biodiversity. Todayless than 5 % of the Malagasy primary forest is left, and year by year it is decreasing. Between 1990 and 2010 about 10 % of the little of the primary forest that is left was destroyed, with increasing tendency.
The Mangoky Reserve endeavours to preserve one of the most sensitive forest areas in the western part of the Island. We are cooperating with the local communities for sensitising them about the value of their natural heritage and enable them to live a decent life without destroying the nature.
Support and cooperation
All activities of the Mangoky Reserve have hitherto been funded exclusively by the resources of the founders. This has been a good starting point and has made us independent, but it is by far not enough for implementing efficient measures to protect the whole area. Our previous activities on a relatively small area (250 ha) have shown that the approach is successful and that we can effectively protect the primary forest. Therefore we were asked to expand our activities to a much larger area (up to 2500 ha). But this would only be possible with the help of partners.

What can you do?
- Support for nature conservation and reforestation
– Support for material and human power for creating fire gates and for fencing particularly endangered and valuable forest areas.
– Support for reforestation of degraded areas with native trees by tree nurseries,
– Support for means of transportation (boats, bikes) to be on the spot quickly in the event of fires or illegal logging.
- Support for the development of “green schools”
– Supporting the local population to build and equip schools in the remote villages along the Mangoky River
– Support training of village school teachers in “green pedagogy” and awareness raising of the local population
– Supporting students and parents with environmentally friendly energy supply (small solar panels, solar lamps, fuels saving stoves etc.)
Why should you support us?
Climate change, extinction of species and loss of biodiversity is something that concerns us all.
– We will provide you with updated information material about newly planted trees and protected areas.
– We will be happy to help you document your commitment to nature and climate. We will support your publicity work effectively and testify your engagement against climate change, deforestation and loss of biodiversity. We can issue private certificates for your commitment to reducing CO2 emissions / binding CO2 in natural forests and help you build an honest green profile.

School Development
The few settlements along the Mangoky River and in the immediate vicinity of the Mangoky Reserve forest are extremely remote, with no road access and without any form of modern infrastructure such as electricity, water supply or communication technology. The population lives on subsistence agriculture, fishing in the river and gathering of natural resources in the forest. There is currently no school service for the children, no health care or any other public services.
The people of three villages around the Mangoky Reserve expressed the wish to get support for the construction of primary schools. The construction of school buildings with two classrooms each is part of the preservation project and an important strategy for integrating local communities and arousing a deeper understanding of the conservation work. See the blog articles on this website for frequent updates on the construction of these schools.

To anchor the understanding and acceptance of environmental protection in the younger generation, it is planned to support the environmental education in the newly constructed schools by equipping the schools with appropriate books and materials and training of teachers.
Could you imagine becoming supporter of one of the Green Schools Mangoky?
The construction of a local school building cost approximately 6000 Euros. For 500 Euros the school can be equipped with a set of high-quality school books about the Malagasy environment. These small amounts make a tremendous change for the children of an entire village — and for the protection of a unique environment! Your contribution will help a whole generation. Please contact us for further information!
