Please note that only a maximum of 3 people can take part in each tour and that individual changes can be made. Tours for just 1 or 2 people can be organised for an additional charge, and longer stays in Isalo National Park and at the Indian Ocean are possible. However, the heart of the trip is always the paddling tour on the Mangoky River – a unique experience.

Time schedule and list of services (example)

The following schedule serves as an example, based on previously completed tours. Changes may occur, e.g., if roads are impassable. Furthermore, the plan can be adapted at any time to individual wishes, for example, if a longer stay in Mangoky Reserve is desired or if the subsequent excursion to Madagascar’s largest baobab tree in the Andombiry forest is not of interest. Follow-up stays at a beach resort in Mangily on the Indian Ocean can be arranged.

1^st day: Arrival in Toliara – transfer to Sakaraha

• [Flight to Toliara – not included]
• Transfer from Toliara Airport to Sakaraha (3 – 4 hours/130 km)
• Dinner and welcome in a restaurant in Sakaraha; explanation of the programme
• 1 night at a Hotel in Sakaraha

2^nd day: Transfer Toliara – Ranohira

• Transfer from Sakaraha to Fanjakana (Beroroha) by car (8 – 10 hours/200 km)
• Picknick on the way (cold food and water)
• Local dinner at in Fanjakana
• Night in a tent in a sandbank close to Mangoky River

3^rd day: 1^st paddling day on the Mangoky River (6 – 8 hours/45 km)

• Simple food (breakfast/lunch/dinner) outdoors
• Water and tea/coffee underway
• Night in a tent on a sandbank

4^th day: 2^nd paddling day on the Mangoky River (6 – 8 hours/45 km)

• Simple food (breakfast/lunch/dinner) outdoors
• Water and tea/coffee underway
• Night in a tent on a sandbank

5^th day: 3^rd paddling day on the Mangoky River (6 – 8 hours/45 km)

• Simple food (breakfast/lunch/dinner) outdoors
• Water and tea/coffee underway
• Visit of a hollow baobab (voluntary)
• Night in a tent on a sandbank

6^th day: 4^th paddling day on the Mangoky River (6 – 8 hours/45 km); visit of Mangoky Reserve

• Simple food (breakfast/lunch/dinner) outdoors
• Water and tea/coffee underway
• Guided trip in the forest at Mangoky Reserve (1 – 2 hours; voluntary)
• Visit of a local village; local coffee; swimming in hot springs (voluntary)
• Night in a tent close to the river

7^th day: 5^th paddling day on the Mangoky River (3 – 4 hours/25 km); drive to Andombiry (Big Baobab)

• Simple breakfast outdoors
• Local dinner at Redaly’s house (village house in Ambika)
• Transfer to the Big Baobab at Anombiry (by car, 70 km, 3 – 4 hours)
• Visit of the Big Baoab (fees included)
• Night in a tent close to the Big Baobab in Andombiry forest

8^th day: Transfer to Mangily (Indian Ocean) or Toliara

• Simple breakfast outdors
• Transfer to Ambika (by car, 70 km, 3 – 4 hours))
• Local dinner at Redaly’s house (village house in Ambika)
• Transfer from Ambika to Toliara (180 km, 3 – h)
• Night at a hotel in Toliara [price not included]

Transfer to Mangily (30 km north of Toliara) instead of Toliara is possible. There, a beach holiday on the Indian Ocean can be added at your own expense. Magoky Tours’ responsibility ends here. However, Magoky Tours is happy to book rooms for you at a resort in Mangily and organise transfer to Toliara (airport).

9^th day: Transfer to Toliara

• Transport to the airport or another place in Toliara
• [Flight back to Antananarivo – not included]

Dates and Prices

The paddling season on the Mangoky River runs from April to July and depends on the river’s water conditions. Mangoky Reserve Tours strives to offer at least four tours of nine days each during this time. The exact dates depend on the client’s wishes and can be chosen freely with early booking. When sending an electronic request here, please indicate whether you would like a tour in April, May, June, or July, or provide specific dates for your tour.

The prices for the tour outlined above are as follows:

2 guests: 1100 Euros per person

3 guests: 800 Euros per person

Tours with only one guest or more than three guests are only possible after careful individual planning. The prices do not include transportation to and from Toliara, nor do they include a possible stay in Toliara (hotel) or Mangily (Ifaty Beach Resort). However, Mangoky Reserve Tours is happy to help organise additional experiences such as a beach holiday in Mangily (Ifaty) or a city break in Toliara after the river paddling. A trip to Isalo National Park can be arranged prior to the paddling tour for an additional charge.
