School in Mitahy ready for use
The school in Mitahy is ready in time for the new school year. It is the first time ever that the children in Mitahy can go to school, and Mitahy is the first village in this part of the Mangoky Valley that has a school. Schools in Vohitovo and Soatanimbary supported by Mangoky Reserve are to follow soon.

The fact that Mitahy is the first of the villages to have a school is due to the enthusiasm and solidarity of the village elders, who have done everything to enable their children to learn. Mangoky Reserve has enjoyed working with the village president and Mitahy’s parent representatives.

Everything is now ready for the new school year; the necessary papers from the governmental education authorities are signed and the school is equipped with with benches and tables thanks to generous donations from Germany. Now it will show whether a teacher can be found for this extremely remote and hot area, and whether the village community is able to raise its share of the wages.

By the way, the school got its final finish through volunteer workers from the Vakoka Vakiteny project. Mrs Hanta and her helpers from Antsirabe undertook the long and arduous journey to Mitahy and put a lot of effort into plastering, painting and equipping – with great results.

In addition, Vakoka Vakiteny distributed children’s books in Malagasy language to the pupils, and Hanta took the opportunity to read with the future students and teach them in a playful way the importance of protecting their unique nature and environment. We thank Hanta from the bottom of our hearts for her great commitment and are very happy about the fruitful cooperation between Mangoky Reserve and Vakoka Vakiteny.
