The Mangoky Reserve is part of a larger protected area, the Mangoky-Ihotry Wetland Complex. This complex consists of dry dense forests, thorny forests, lakes including Lake Ihotry and its surrounding lakes and mangroves with the Mangoky River Delta, and is managed by Asity, a Malagasy Environmental Association (cf. http://www.asity-madagascar.org).

In July 2018 the Environmental Management and Development Plan (PAG – Plan d’Amenagement et de Gestion) of the Mangoky-Ihotry Wetland Complex was changed, so that the Mangoky Reserve now is entitled to carry out the protection activities of an area of more than 250 ha primary forest.

On January 29th, the revised PAG was finally ratified on regional level in a meeting in Toliara.  Besides the Association Mangoky Reserve, the leaders of different departments of the South-West Region (Toliara) and the Menabe Region (Morondva), the District of Morombe and the Association Asity Madagascar were represented. Asity made a presentation of the Mangoky Reserve, and we learned that our work is well known on highest level of the regional administration.  The next and final step will be the approval of the revised PAG on top level at different governmental offices in Antananarivo.

The White House Reserve is entitled to carry our protection and development activities ni the area marked “Tranokaky” on the revised PAG
